> Going back to see my doctor this week after having my first session with a CBT specialist. It seems as if they ask me which one I would like to try next (kinda disturbing really), anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on which SSRI works the best for OCD?
> MichaelI remember reading the book "Stop Obsessing!: How to Overcome Your Obsessions and Compulsions" by Edna B. Foa and Reid Wilson. There was a chapter on the meds available at the time of the publication of this book that suggested Prozac, based on some study somebody had conducted, reduced roughly 30% of the obsessive-compulsive symptoms of patients treated with the drug. Paxil was close behind at 29%, followed by Zoloft at 28% and Luvox at 23%. I was surprised to see Luvox come in last, considering it seems to be the "gold standard" as far as treating OCD. That is, next to Anafranil...the particular study in the aforementioned book reported that patients that were given Anafranil reported a 38% reduction in symptoms. Anafranil's a tricyclic antidepressant though, as opposed to an SSRI...but you guys already know that. And remember...EVERYONE'S DIFFERENT. Don't give up just because you don't see an improvement with one particular medication, no matter how effective it's supposed to be.
