Seroquel does work differently than SSRIs, but I do not think that it would ordinarily be a good choice to combat apathy. That's just from my own experience and from what I've seen and heard about other people's experiences. If it can calm people's brains who hear voices or have racing thoughts or severe anxiety, it may not be the first choice for stimulating an apathetic mind. BUT, it is sometimes effective for the apathy seen in schizophrenia. I would talk to my doctor about it, but depending on your dx, you may want to try a different type of anitdepressant. Different types of ADs work differently in the brain. A lot of people who do not get help with SSRIs, find other newer ADs such wellbutrin or effexor effective. The major downside on those is that they are difficult to come off of. That is just what I have seemed to notice from other people's experiences.
