In reply to Anti-depressant combos (please help!), posted by med_empowered on May 31, 2005, at 2:44:25
Hi,
If it is only occassional days when you feel suddenly apathetic, lethargic and generally miserable, why would you want to make such significant changes to your cocktail. I don't know, but it is so hard to find a med or a combo of meds that provide significant relief, I would be afraid to mess with a good thing. Perhaps you could look at adding something that you could take on those days when get knocked down a bit - perhaps a stimulant to be used as needed (if that is possible). Or perhaps you could even try something natural, like L-Tyrosine or L-Phenylalanine or even NADH for those days on those days when you need a little bit extra. Sorry, I am not being of much help.
Good luck to you. I hope you get some advice from a few more people.

> hi everyone! I'm Bipolar (type I or NOS, depending on shrink), and I'm finding a new doc to do my prescribing. I'm currently taking 900mgs Trileptal, 45mgs Buspar, 90mgs Cymbalta, and 200mgs Vistaril for sleep. Overall, I feel good, except for occasional days when *BAM*, I'm suddenly apathetic, lethargic, and generally miserable. I'd like to try an add-on med or two to get rid of this, or at least make those days less miserable. Usually, shrinks work with me in doing drug combos, which is nice...sometimes I also think they do it b/c I refuse to try drugs they always suggest (I refuse to take lithium, depakote, topomax, MAOIs, and most anti-psychotics. I'm a kind of frustrating patient, I suppose). Anyway, what I was thinking is this: get rid of the Vistaril, add Remeron (with the goal of working up to 30mgs) and Wellbutrin-SR (the 2X daily stuff...goal of working up to 350-400mgs/day) and bump up the BuSpar to 60mgs (15, 15, then 30mgs at nite) to prevent or minimize any Wellbutrin-induced anxiety. I'd also like to try to bring the Trileptal down to 750mgs (300AM;450PM) except for times when I'm feeling "extra bipolar," in which case I could go back up to 900 for a while (300AM, 600PM). What do you all think? This is all pure guesswork on my part, but I feel like I *HAVE* to have a plan when I see my new shrink, b/c shrinks often don't take the depression aspect of my problem seriously enough. Anyone have thoughts, ideas, or experiences they could share? Thanks *very* much for your input...I appreciate it.
