Hi there, and welcome to Babble.

It is not uncommon for some people to experience increased anxiety and the jitters when starting an AD, including a SSRI like Lexapro. Usually, this is a start-up side effect which will likely subside as your body adjusts to the medication. I experienced an increase in anxiety for the first few weeks when I went on Paxil a number of years ago, but it did subside and Paxil proved an excellent med for me for anxiety and panic attacks. I am sure Lexapro could be equally effective. If the anxiety is causing you distress and is somewhat debilitating, you might want to ask your pdoc for a small prescription for a benzo (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin) to take as needed while you adjust to the Lexapro.

Take care, and I hope you have success with the Lexapro.

Tamara

> I am in real need of advice here. I have been on 5mg of Lexapro for one week (will eventually go up to 10mg). Since yesterday I've felt very jittery and anxious (worse than ever). Is this a common side effect that will pass? Really hope so....
