In reply to digestive problems related to meds, etc.? HELP!!!, posted by jessers11581 on May 15, 2005, at 16:12:49
> Does anyone else out there have SEVERE digestive problems and think it might be related to either chronic anxiety, or to the meds that you take for depression/anxiety? I just don't get it. I was diagnosed with "IBS" several months back, but my doctor can't tell me what the cause is. I can't eat anything without my stomach swelling up with gas and then having to run to the bathroom. I'm constantly bloated and have rumbly, uncomfortable sensations going on in my gut. And I have bouts of diarrhea that last for months sometimes. I take Cymbalta 30 mg. at present, but I've also been on Celexa 40 mg. with the same symptoms. What's going on here? I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!
I've had diarrhea predominant IBS symptoms for decades. I've found that serotonergic drugs can (lithium-SSRI's-Effexor-Cymbalta) make it much worse. I know what you mean about the constant "rumbling". I don't have that since I've quit the serotonergic meds. I still get some IBS symptoms from anxiety, but I have much *less* symptoms w/o the SSRI's (i.e.). Tricyclic antidepressants used to work much better (amitriptyline, i.e.).
