That was my point. I have a "hard time focusing" and ADD medication comes close to solving the problem. I personally just don't like the terms these conditions are given. Attention Defecit Disorder makes perfect sense, I just think its unhelpful viewing it as a clear-cut problem. I think that my troubles with concentration are just one manifestation of a wider mental and physical state that makes it difficult to navigate life's normal channels. I find that if you break it down into just "normal me + ADD," you're kind of breaking the link with it and other problems you may have that may be related. I don't see why that should cause offence to anyone.
I find that with alot of DR.'s, unless you express a complete belief in ADD as a pure disorder, they are hesitant or unwilling to prescribe you helpful medication. They need a reason with a title and a set symptoms to justify the prescription, and you end up in the position where you feel like youre not being completely honest with your Dr. I think in 10 or 20 years from now, ADD will be referred to as "what was formally known as ADD." Preferrably ten.
I'd like to see physchiatry become less based on theory, or at least see the theories become more elaborate. I don't know if I could take yet another diagram of the old synapse/synapse junction with all the seretonin and gaba bubbles being sent and recieved.
