In reply to migraine med Replax--addictive? depressant?, posted by smokeymadison on April 6, 2005, at 14:06:02
I take Relpax for migraines, but it's not addictive. However, my neurologist said that if you take it frequently over a period of time, it will not work as effectively. Also, if you take pain medication frequently, you can start to have what's called "rebound" headaches.
If you get migraines every day, you probably need to be on a prophylactic or preventive medication. There are several that your doctor can recommend. I was once addicted to Fiorinal, and I wound up in the ER when I went cold turkey, not realzing that I was addicted. But Relpax is not addictive. It is to target migraine specifically.
I hope that helps. Good luck, because I know how debilitating migraines are. You'll do almost anything to get rid of the pain.
