I used to take Xanax, then Xanax XR worked well for my anxiety at the 3mg/day level. Then i wanted to try and taper off of it. The first milligram was no problem. Went down from 3 - 2.5 mg and stopped there for 4 weeks. Then from 2.5 to 2.0 and stayed there for 4 weeks. Going further down on the Xanax gave me severe rebound anxiety so i choice to switch to Klonopin. I switched right over from 2 mg Xanax XR/day to 2 mg Klonopin/day without feeling any difference except maybe a little bit sedated the first few days. From there i could taper to 0.75 mg Klonopin without much problems. And that's where i stand now. For me Xanax was great for Anxiety much better than Klonopin. And i never felt any urge to raise the dosage. The only downside for me was the difficulty to taper. But since switching over to a long acting benzo took care of that i consider Xanax being top of the line and should not be banned.
