In reply to Why did Wellbutrin make me lose weight and now..., posted by alexdra on March 11, 2005, at 19:13:07
I've seen information all over the internet about people losing weight after they start Wellbutrin. I thought it was because the drug affected impulse control (it is prescribed for smoking cessation) but I'm beginning to think it's also because of its affect on the patient's metabolism. I took Wellbutrin for 10 years and then decided to stop because my life was stable, pretty low-stress -- a good time for a tryout. I stopped cold turkey and gained 8 pounds in a week. Admittedly, I did eat like crazy, but not that much. My activity level was the same. I was a little overweight to begin with, now I am in the fatty camp and trying to fight off depression and the weight gain. I am exercising, doing things I enjoy, and for the most part have been feeling great -- except for the fact that when I look in the mirror I see a fat person.
