How Does Percocet Affect You?

I think I really must be losing my mind, or selectively deciding not to remember things. The thing is I'm having some Ummm elective surgery done on Thursday. The doctor says I have to take percocet for the first 24 hours whether I have pain or not. Then I have a Rx for Tylenol with codeine. I've NEVER taken anything stronger than motrin. When I was nursing I saw too many pts become psychotic with pain meds, or totally confused and combative. So, I have this great fear of pain meds. I even had a colonoscopy and refused pain meds. He won't let me go home til I swallow the first pill. What is your experience with percocet? Some say it's very addictive cause it makes you feel good. I just know I'm afraid.
