I'm with you on that one--when the FDA/DEA *rarely* decide to make a somewhat controversial substance available, they make it expensive and difficult to obtain...look at THC. Pot itself is still very much a Schedule I substance, except in California (the DEA is trying to change that, too). Still, Marinol is RX'd for all some things--primarily nausea and to stimulate appetite in the severely ill--as a super-expensive, schedule III substance. True story: a guy I knew had advanced HIV and was RX'd a tiny amount of marinol to help him out. The other drug they used for nausea? THORAZINE. So I wondered, and I wonder now, if the gov't cares so much about the sick (physically AND mentally ill), what's up with cases like this? To me, its an unacceptable form of cruelty.
