In reply to Lamictal for depression/ sexual side effects?, posted by smokeymadison on March 20, 2005, at 16:05:02
Hey,
I had some sexual dysfunction on Lamictal. It was a little noticeable at 25 mg and really prominent at 50. For me it was loss of erectile function, as opposed to loss of libido. From what I've heard, this is actually a rare side effect with Lamictal. Many find it pro-sexual.
I wasn't able to stay on Lamictal because it was so activating. (I ended up having my GAD turn into a full-fledged panic attack.) But, if you can tough it out, the SD may lessen over time.
As far as the AD effect, hopefully someone else will chime in...
Best,
cache-monkey> I have bipolar II and have been prescribed lamictal for depression. 600 mg of trileptal takes care of my cycling but i am very depressed. i have been taking lamictal for three weeks, so i am on 50 mg daily and will be for one more week before going up to 100 mg. my pdoc told me it would take about 6 weeks for it to really start helping with the depression, but i am afraid i will have gone through this slow titration for nothing, that it won't work. i am limited on the antidepressants i can take. all the SSRIs make me manic. wellbutrin worked for a year, but then seemed to quit working. does lamictal really work for depression?
