i would just be honest and tell him or her that the xr just doesn't work for you. have you tried the immediate release and know how it's supposed to feel? the other thought is that maybe adderall just isn't your drug? anyway, when xanax xr came out, my drs and i were all excited to try it. i took xanax four times a day, and that involved a lot of ups and downs and psychological dependence. i tried xanax xr, and i just couldn't feel it working. it wasn't nearly as potent and effective. could be the same for you and adderall.
the other thing i would mention is the cost. i don't know whether your insurnace covers adderall xr, but in any case, it's a lot more expensive than the regular, which is available as a generic. few doctors can argue with a reason like this since they're not the ones shelling out good money for the pills.
