In reply to relation to zyprexa....ocd/odd urges?, posted by B2chica on March 12, 2005, at 11:51:46

hey! OCD MAY respond to atypical antipsychotics...from what I've read, they're sometimes necessary when the OCD takes on psychotic features and/or when the OCD is part of a serious psychotic disorder, such as Schizophrenia (apparently, an unusually high number of schizophrenics have INTENSE OCD). That said, OCD is also still considered an anxiety disorder, and is known to respond to anti-anxiety treatment (benzos, etc.). Also, anti-depressants can help; Luvox and Anafranil are the two major ones that pop up in my mind. Anyway, I think you should tell your shrink about this, and also emphasize why you tapered the zyprexa and that you think of this as an OCD-type symptom.
