I know this.. Once when I was having a full blown attack and called my doctor for help ( at 1 a.m. in the morning- I am sure she appreciated that!), she said, " Go see if you have any benadryl in your cabinet and if you do, take it."

So I did and it knocked me out and I fell asleep.

So, I suppose it can help. It definitely has a calming effect.
