Hi,
Just for safety, I thought I'd point out some circumstances in which regular use of acetaminophen 1000mg four times a day might not be safe...........
1) People who drink moderate or large amounts of alcohol on a regular basis. People who are alcohol dependent. It is best not to drink at all if you are taking regular acetaminophen.
2) People who take enzyme-inducing drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (Tegretol), rifampicin (rifampin) etc.
3) People who are malnourished (eg. in anorexia, or AIDS). It is important to maintain good nutrition if using acetaminophen on a long-term basis. It is *not* safe to fast while using regular acetaminophen.
4) Children, the dose I recommended was an adult dose.
5) People who suffer from liver disease
6) People who take warfarin
7) People who have severe renal impairment
8) Liver damage has been reported in people who claimed to have taken recommended doses, but this is extremely rare. The risks associated with acetaminophen are generally much less than the risks associated with other analgesics.
