Did you discuss the medication with the doctor at all?? The likely benefits as well as some side affects to be aware of / watch out for??
If you don't have that information then I would reccomend contacting him again to obtain it.
If he has prescribed it then I would say that that is because in his professional opinion your son could benefit from it.
Yes people can tell you about their experiences. Some of them will be good, and some of them will be bad. Medications affect different people differently and so you can't generalise from how other people find it to how your son is going to find it. The only way to know is to trial it and see.
It is probably also useful to bear in mind that your doctor offers professional advice that he is responsible for (you have a come back if he is wrong). We, on the other hand are of varying degrees of expertise and knowledge...
If you decide not to give it to your son then I would suggest telling the doctor that so he is aware of that.
