Psychotropic drugs for Physical Pain?

Posted by cubbybear on February 20, 2005, at 10:04:05

Hi everyone,
Greetings from Thailand where, as in the U.S., the doctors have become increasingly reluctant to prescribe conventional analgesics such as codeine, and would rather see you suffer than be accused of getting a patient hooked and addicted. Ain't thisjust great. Especially when you really need the stuff.

Anyway, I'm presently in severe pain from a shoulder injury. I take MAOI Parnate so my options on compatible pain killers are limited in the first place; opiates like codeine and a few others like oxycodone are OK, but I don't think I'm going to get too far obtaining them. I've tried Neurontin and all it seems to do is get me good and sedated and provide a good night's sleep, but doesn't help this particular kind of pain.
Does anyone know what if any psychotropic meds out there (compatible with an MAOI) would also relieve physical pain? cubbybear
