> Dalmane was my first sleep med (15mg at bedtime). It's VERY long acting. I took it with 75mg of doxepin at bedtime. Worked pretty good. You might feel a little hungover in the day though.
Because its half-life is so long, it can build up in the system such that you are affected by it all day long without necessarily recognizing it. It can produce mild sedation, drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia, loss of balance, and incoordination. You might not want to operate heave equipment while on it. :-)The incidence of elderly people falling who have been taking Dalmane chronically is very, very high. These falls often result in broken hips. Broken hips usually herald a steep decline in health. This was the case with my grandmother.
