Could it be possible that a small dose of Lexapro in combination with Wellbutrin could counter-effect the side effects of the Wellbutrin?
I had been on a combination like this for a year and a half now. I recently eliminated the Lexapro (after tapering gradually with my pdoc), and experienced a month of debilitating nausea and headaches. At first I thought it was withdrawal symptoms from the discontinuation of the Lexapro, but when it lingered for so long my pdoc and I thought that perhaps it might be symptoms of my depression rearing its ugly head. So we increased the Wellbutrin (XL) from 300 to 450 mg. I remained sick for another week, so the pdoc suggested that I start taking the Lexapro again, and when we are sure that the increased dose of the Wellbutrin has kicked in, we could try tapering off of the Lexapro again. Within 3 days of that first dose of Lexapro I felt great again! I was thrilled. And I figured I must need the Lexapro (for the seratonin) AND the Wellbutrin (for the norepinephrin). After a week back on the Lexapro (2 weeks since the increase of the Wellbutrin), I am nauseated and headachy again. So, I'm wondering if the Wellbutrin has kicked in, and these are actually side effects from the Wellbutrin.
Any ideas about that?
I will go back to the lower dose of the Wellbutrin tomorrow. Can't believe I messed with it in the first place!!!
