hey nicki,
sounds like you're a lucky one in terms of losing and not gaining weight on depakote. i've been scared of it since the first time i heard of it because my friend, a fifteen year old at the time, gained 30 pounds in three weeks!
i was on depakote briefly for about three weeks. i don't know whether i gained or lost weight or didn't change at all. i was in the hospital for most of that time, so with hospital food and stress and all, my weight could have changed without the drug. still, when i didn't want to take depakote, the doctors promised that i was unlikely to gain weight at the low dose (500mg) that i would be on. they said the dosing is weight-correlated so i wouldn't need some of the high doses that others are on. i think i've heard that it's mainly doses above 1500mg or so that cause weight gain. there seems to be a threshold for everyone below which they're fine weight-wise and above which they gain weight. i guess it's a matter of finding that threshold and staying just below it for max effect. hope this helps.
