In reply to is anyone taking prozac and effexor xr?, posted by lexman on January 31, 2005, at 17:13:36

I take Effexor XR 225mg with Prozac 20 mg along with Remeron 15 mg and Adderall 10-40 mg. The sweating is a side-effect one gets from most SSRIs. I have experienced the worst sweating with the Effexor, and it is my humble opinion that Prozac enhances the Effexor and makes it worse.

I wake up every morning soaking wet from head to toe. I stayed up all night last weekend and found that it doesn't matter whether I'm asleep or not. I was thinking that it might be the Effexor XR wearing off (mild withdrawal) that is causing those sousing episodes.

For me, I need the Prozac for the enhancement of Effexor, it seems to create more of a stimulating or invigorating combination rather than a dulling effect.

You might try to change the time of your dose to help with the sleepiness. Even though I'm on Effexor XR I still split my dose up during the day, otherwise it doesn't work to it fullest potential.

Why did you stop the Prozac, if I may ask? Is the low dose Effexor working for your symptoms?

Effexor XR is much harder to get off of than Prozac, and if Prozac helps, than I would advise remaining on the Prozac and adding the smaller amount of Effexor to it. 75 mg of Effexor is not considered an adequate dosage to combat depression, or panic disorder for that matter.

And going off of that amount of Prozac with nothing being initiated or to back you up is likely going to drop you down mood-wise. Unless the Prozac was worsening your depression in the first place.

For me, they work much better together than either one does alone. I have been on this combo for almost 2 years now, after trying many, many other meds and combo's, and have had good stable results.

How long were you on Prozac? There is no way the 75 mg of Effexor is going to cover the loss of 60 mg of Prozac. That in itself is going to cause a drop in mood.

Did Prozac also cause you be fatigued or tired during the day?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to tease out the details to better enable you to get answers.
