Re: Baseline After Going Off AD

Hi Phillipa,

I have been AD-free for about 5-6 months now and I do feel like my brain has adjusted back somewhat. For example, I was on some drugs (Nortryptiline, Lithium) that really dumbed me down and made me slow witted. I feel like I have mostly recovered wits.

I have to tell you, though, that overall I feel like my brain has just been hit with a few too many foreign substances (~20 medications in all) and that some aspects of AD use I will never fully recover from. For instance, I mentioned in a post earlier today that I believe SSRI use has permanently damaged my sex drive. I just feel that my depression w/o meds now is significantly worse than it was before I popped my first AD 10+ years ago.

I also think that reliance on drugs to make me better on their own, as opposed to proactive things like excercise, dieting and therapy, have made me take a pretty helpless stance towards my depression.

> It seems a lot of Posters are going off their AD's in frustration of their not working, myself included. How long do you think it will take a person's brain to adjust back to "pre" AD useage. I know a lot of it has to do with how long you've taken them ect., but there has to be some way to know. Any suggestions? Phillipa
