> My 20+ year old is coming off of 300 mg of Effexor XR after 18 months. The meds were reduced from 300mg to 225mg to 175mg to 150mg to 75mg to 37.5 mg. in one week steps for a total of 4 weeks. Completely done and off as of 1/1/05. Now we're dealing with head aches, nausea, sweats, hot and cold flashing and brain snaps, feelings of being hung over without the headache; and other times with the headache; feeling of brain swelling with eyes hurting to move. Going to the GP tomorrow and he isn't too familiar with AD and the P.Doc left the state 4 months ago. We are in need of your help and input ASAP to give to the doctor. Going on more AD at a low dosage is not an option. Our questions are how long until the effects of effexor xr withdraw are gone? How much time? We've had none since 1/1/05.
> Any OTC ideas? Time lines? Wait it out? I pray for relief and healing for all. Thank you so much... as a mother, your postings helped calm the un-knowns, fears and doubts during this unpleasant difficult time.

>The last 37.5 mg. is the most difficult. I reduced that dosage over a period of at least a month. When I finally got off of the last quarter of a pill, then I started having terrible problems. In my case another low-dose serotonergic agent did the trick. Took ALL of the problems away. If that is not an option here, then I would suggest going back on the 37.5 mg and decreasing that more slowly. Also, other people here have reported that Benedryl helped them alot. I don't know the mechanism behind that. I never tried it myself.
My heart goes out to you. I hope you find relief for your child soon.
