Hi Adam,
I think what you've written is correct. Folks are so variable as to how emotional unwellness effects eating. For me, when toxic anxiety is raging, I have NO desire for food. Others find these emotional unwell states triggers eating. I do think there's alot of reason to believe some psych meds mess with metabolism and this has been evident for alot of folks.
Just from my personal experience, I believe my benzo use has been weight neutral. To address the questions you aked me: I'm on Klonopin. Have been for the better part of 3 years - daily use. My dose is quite low, for the most part, but I titrate - highest dosing at 1 - 2 mgs per day divided and lowest at .25 - .5 mgs per day divided.
So, I guess there could be a relationship between the weight issues and higher dosing of a benzo or prehaps the benzo in combo could exacerbate weight gain. I don't know that answer.
