Talk with your doctor, and switch to the immediate release and taper down from the equivilent dosage there. What is the current dose? Generally speaking, at doses under 4mg/day a larger percentage of alprazolam users can quit 'cold turkey' without much negative withdrawal. Not my recommendation to do so however.
