In the past couple of years, I have tried Adderall XR, Ritalin, and Adderall (immediate-release) for ADHD. I have been on Adderall (i-m) for appx. 2 years total now. The first stimulant I tried, actually, was Adderall XR...
It worked great at first but I started to "crash" around 5 p.m. or so in the evening etc. so my pdoc switched me to the regular (i-m) version of Adderall.
I tried Ritalin briefly; it is shorter-acting than regular Adderall. It also sent my anxiety level(s) through the roof, complete w/racing heartbeat, etc...plus it was not as effective as the Adderall (which thank goodness I am now back on)!
Best,
L.> I finally told my doctor today that I wanted to stop taking Ritalin and switch to something else. I had been taking Ritalin for 10 months but for the last two months it was taking more and more to achieve the same results. It got to a point where I was taking more than what was perscribed and would run out before I was supposed to. Today my dr switched me to Adderall XR instead of Ritalin. Hopefully I will not feel the need to increase the dose any time soon.
