I am not an expert, but can give you my experience. (Remember that EACH person's comments here should not replace doc consults) Zoloft was the first med I ever tried. It seemed to be energizing, helped with depression and a little with anxiety. For me, Paxil did indeed help more with generalized anxiety--BUT I gained a LOT of weight, rapidly--so rapidly that my back went out. For me it was not an option because of this.
My sense from the literature and people's comments fits with my experience---Paxil helps anxiety more, but is well known to increase weight.
The only way really is to try--each of us is different in our biochemistry.
