Imovane/Zopiclone simply is sedating and used as a sleeping aid. It acts quickly, making you drowsy, dizzy and a bit uncoordinated, so should only be taken before bed. (Depends on dosage obviously).
It's fairly short-acting, so you don't have a drugged "hang-over" feeling when you awake.
I used it several years ago for insomnia. I have an anxiety disorder, and I didn't find it had any anxiolytic effects the next day. It's not so much "calming", more a "knock-out" drug, like crazychickuk says!
I take the benzo, Klonopin, and it has a completely different effect. Calming and focussing, reducing physical and mental anxiety symptoms.
