Lamictal for depression

Any people with unipolar depression use Lamictal with results? I have depression that has only partially responded to antidepressants; I have never had a manic or hypomanic episode, however bipolar does also run in my family so I am thinking maybe of trying a mood stabilizer.

HOw bad are side effects? Is hair loss extremely frequent? What about weight gain?
