Hello,
This is sleep paralysis combined with hallucinations (hypnagogic type). 30% people in the population would experience this at least once on their life time (esp pure paralysis whitout hallucinations). Few however would experience it often.
Paralysis is normal and all people experiece it at night several times. Noramlly the body would get out of the paralysis at the same time as one awakes up. But for some the two events might happen at an interavl and thus the patient awakes but still feel paralysed.
You have a special type which is the combined hallucinations. If you expericnce this often you should get an appointment with a sleep specialist soon, you might really have narcolepsy. P.S. you might still suffer from narcolepsy without any signs of cataplexy.
Best luck,
Ted.
