dangerous reaction to Trileptal

Posted by DavidLA29 on November 14, 2004, at 22:54:16

Hi everyone -- I started taking Trileptal a few days ago and was having some concerning symptoms yesterday, so went to the hospital and my sodium level had dropped to 125 (135 - 145 is normal for a male adult) despite eating plenty of salt. They said to stop taking it which I've done, and feel slightly better today but there are still some symptoms. Does this go away completely after the med is stopped? Could it have any permanent effect on my sodium balance? And could it drop to a dangerous level in the next few days? Just a bit worried and wondered if anyone had experience with this.

That brings up an interesting point, are there foods or supplements that can offset this sodium loss? Or does the Trileptal inhibit sodium absorption (scary possibility) so as to make using a supplement moot? Does anyone here know anything about this?
