> Hello there, I am taking 50mg of Parnate. I have been on this dose for 5 days now. I don't seem to be seeing or feeling many positive effects from it yet. I have been on it for a total of 7 weeks.

I'm concerned since, if you have been on a dose of, say 40 mg. for at least 6 weeks, you probably should have felt some relief from the DEPRESSION by now. I'd give the 50 mg. another couple of weeks, then discuss the situation again with your doctor. Some people need much higher-than-the recommended doses.

I do feel aggitated on and off. Prior to this I was on Paxil I loved it at first and it worked very well. It kept my mind from running constantly. It was really the first relief I had ever had since about the age of 9 or 10 years old. I have Avoidant Personality Disorder, Social Phobia and really anything that has social in it causes severe panic and anziety, also depression. I thought the Parnate would be much more effective.

If your main problem is anxiety, then I wonder about the use of an MAOI, or any anti-depressant for that matter. But I'm not a doctor. . .it's hard for me to make a judgement about your symptoms, and the relative "amounts" of anxiety and depression.

But doesn't Paxil work mainly on Seratonin? What all does Parnate work on?

Parnate indirectly serves to increase the levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in storage sites in the brain and throughout the central nervous system.

Does it take Parnate a long time to work?

Like other ADs, the therapeutic effects of Parnate are normally not reached until a minimum of 3-4 weeks.

. My next question is what are you both taking Parnate for?

At present, I'm taking only Parnate and it is on a continuous basis to keep major depression in remission, and the high anxiety I get as a symptom of it.

Also what else do you take with it, and Is there something that can be added to raise the Seratonin level in my case a little?

I'm not sure about augmentation strategies.

My doctor has me quiet confused about it all.

That's what the Internet is for! There's an endless amount of material out there for you to learn even more than most doctors know.

Oh, I also take clonazepam 1/2mg and hydroxizine I have been told I can take several, I usually take 2 at bedtime. I take a very high dose of the Clonazepam when I go out and it doesn't work as well on the Parnate as it did on the Paxil.

I was taking Clonazepam before bed to help me sleep and I found that, contrary to Willyee's experience, it was a perfect compliment to Parnate. I never had any problem taking it or Xanax to relieve anxiety, whether I was on Parnate or not. As you can see, everybody reacts differently.
I think you should give the50 mg. Parnate dose a little more time, and either way, discuss with the doctor what you can do to alleviate your anxiety--another medication that would be safe to take with Parnate. I can tell you that NEURONTIN is safe with Parnate and it might be the answer. Good luck
