In reply to Re: Taking 60mg Celexa - can I go higher if needed?, posted by linkadge on November 2, 2004, at 18:10:08
Linkage is correct. I have read clinical studies, and heard anecdotally from my father's psychiatrist (yes, don't laugh, we're a family of loons) that Celexa, do to its extraordinary selectivity, and relatively weak potency at its site of action, can be raised to levels as high as 120mg. Beyond this, I personally have never heard it being done, but I'd bet that it could be raised even higher without any serious adverse effects.
I can say that I have taken doses of 60mg of Lexapro to no ill effect at all when I felt depression creeping up at my 40mg dose. Of course, since Lexapro is 2-4x as potent (depending on which studies you actually believe) as Celexa, that would have put me at an equivalent dose of 120-240mg of Celexa. So, I'd say you've still got room to experiment with.
Hope this helps and best wishes,
Justin
