Remeron and Sensitivity to Noises

Posted by del on November 2, 2004, at 16:02:37

After trying Remeron (mirtazapine) for a few days, I noticed that I had a sharply increased reaction to certain unexpected or surprising noises, such as the phone ringing or various warning sounds that my computer makes. Those "normal" sounds really made me jump! Since this effect persisted, I stopped taking the mirtazapine after three weeks, thinking the problem would go away and I would quickly return to normal. But nearly one month later I am still overreacting to those sounds.

Has anyone else experienced this reaction to Remeron/mirtazapine or know what mechanism causes it? Has my brain been permanently affected or damaged by this medication?
