If you can think of your medicines interaction with your body like going up a mountain, the half-life of any molecule is the point at the tip of the mountain. On the downside of the mountain, the drug is more involved in decomposing than when it was first introduced to your body thereby being less effective. It's part of the equation that determines a patient taking a drug once a day or every 4 hours for a desired result in treating one's symptoms.
