About 3 years ago, I was on both Remeron and Celexa to get me out of a severe depression. It lifted, and after about a year and a half, I went off Remeron because it gave me the munchies and I was gaining weight. I eventually switched from Celexa to Lexapro as well. I went along for about two years or so on just Lexapro, doing fine.
About six weeks ago, I had an emotional loss in my life that triggered an episode of depression. It was not a long episode, but I spiraled down very quickly and it was quite severe, with suicidal ideation and all that. Pdoc said I should go back on Remeron just for a month or so to get through the crisis, because I had not been eating or slepping for a couple weeks.
I was on 15 mgs of Remeron for about a month, then for the past week I have been down to 7.5.
My bottle will run out in a couple days. My question is, can I go completely off Remeron after going down to 7.5 for about a week? Or do I need to renew my scrip and take it for another week at 7.5? This would be, one month 15, 2 weeks 7.5 and then nothing. Or is just one weeke at 7.5 enough?
The reason I ask is, I am getting the munchies really bad again, and I am afraid that with Halloween coming up, candy + Remeron = me looking like The Great Pumpkin.
The crisis has passed, I am talking about it in therapy and I don't think I still need the Remeron. How slowly do I have to taper off?
Meanwhile I continue to take the Lexapro during the day and will keep doing that.
I guess I should ask the pdoc but wanted other opinions. Thanks.
