Brain Shivers, Weight Gain, Alcohol

Posted by buzzball on October 14, 2004, at 22:43:29

Hello,

I have been on 150mg of Effexor for a year. I tried to wean off it back in May and I experienced what I have come to find out from this forum are known as Brain Shivers. I had described this "shock" feeling to my Doctor; I asked if this was normal--"he said its normal for you" They shocks got so intense and I experienced severe anxiety so I started taking the the 150mg again. I have felt trapped by htis drug. I have gained about 30lbs since i sterted on this drug. I have been drinking alot of beer (wrong I know) also. It seems the Effexor stifles he effects of alcohol; has anyone else experienced this. I need to get of this drug because I am so unmotivated to do anything. I am the sole breadwinner and the father of 2 young children and its not fair to them or me. Has anyone been prescribed anything that (besides another AD) that has helped minimize the effects of withdrawl ????
I had a friend that said Xanax helped them slightly.

Thanks,
John
