hi link, :)
hmm, well all i can find now is this:
"Lamotrigine is thought to act at voltage-sensitive sodium channels to stabilize neuronal membranes and inhibit the release of excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters (like glutamate and aspartate). "
i've heard it mentioned before that it affects all the neurotransmitters. i assumed this to be true because lamictal performs so well as an antidepressant. i shouldn't have assumed this, though. perhaps, for instance, it only affects dopamine and gaba. sorry, i can't find any evidence..what's important, though, is that it *works well*...much better than many antidepressants out there..at the very least, it doesn't cause a dopamine deficiency as a part of its action as the SSRIs and SNRIs do (which i have consistently said i think is not an ideal mechanism of action). however it works, it works very effectively. i would try this before zoloft or effexor anyday.
amy :)
