HELP! How do you taper off Lithium?

I'm currently on 600 mg/night of Lithium Carbonate and I desperately want to get of it for several reasons, one being the weight gain it has caused and also its failure to help me with what it's supposed to.

My pdoc is against this, so she won't help with telling me how to taper off or whatever. However, I don't care anymore, so could someone PLEASE tell me how to taper off this med. I'd greatly appreciate it.
