How do you know if SSRI have helped(trigger)

Hi
I am a college student and began taking SSRi's a year ago. Before that I had sleeping problems and they put me on lexapro to deal with it. I was unmonitered for a long time and had awful suicadal ideation and SI'ing things I had never done before then. I have a great therapsit but I really don't knwo what to do about these drugs. I tried to get off of Effexor (which my new Psychiatrist put me on) and I had awful withdrawl symptoms so they put me on half of Zoloft. I just don't know what todo. Part of me feels like maybe the SSRI's caused some of my problems, but maybe all of that was just a big coincidence. I go to the psychiatrist on Monday and am scared to tell her about my suicidal thinking. Any advice, support would be welcomed and appreciated.
