Geodon didn’t work out for me, either. The first dose of the day would basically knock me out, yet the evening dose didn’t affect me. I eventually switched to taking all 160 mg at night, which helped prevent me from sleeping so much. I don’t think Geodon did anything beneficial though. My situation is probably different from yours as I am also Bipolar I. I was diagnosed with MPD (now DID) in 1981 and Bipolar in 1998. It’s debatable whether anything other than tranquilizers helped the dissociation. The old antipsychotics like Haldol and Trilafon were awful; I had a “toxic reaction” to Mellaril and was hospitalized on a medical floor for almost two weeks in 1980. More recently, Tegretol was intolerable. Seroquel gave me horrible nightmares. I’m generally able to tolerate a lot of meds. The problem is that they don’t seem to work very well. The exception was Zoloft, which worked so well and so fast that I got manic. I wish I could take it again, but my pdoc won’t let me take any antidepressants anymore.
These are meds I’ve taken in the last 6 years:
Effexor
Depakote
Zyprexa
Topamax
Paxil
Risperdal
Gabitril
Lamictal
Wellbutrin
Klonopin
Celexa
Eskalith
Geodon
Zoloft
Zonegran
Strattera
Seroquel
Tegretol
nortriptyline
Stelazine
Provigil
Ativan
TrileptalThese some of the meds I took between 1972-1988. (I was off all meds between 1989-1997.)
Haldol
Thorazine
Artane
Ritalin
Permitil
Vivactil
Sodium Amytal
Serax
Mellaril
Cogentin
Restoril
Sinequan
Tranxene
Thorazine
Ritalin
Asendin
Xanax
Mysoline
Eskalith
Inderal
Trilafon-----------------------------------------------
> Do you find any medication makes you worse? I had a horrible experience with Geodon and I am not sure why. Doc thinks it's because it relaxed me.
