Cymbalta similar to Parnate?

Posted by quarterwit on September 16, 2004, at 10:06:30

Somewhere in someone's recent post (I can't find it now), it was said that "Cymbalta is similar to Parnate". Does anybody have a take on this? Aren't they different mechanisms of action? Cymbalta touts equal inhibition of serotonin and NE, but its prescribing info DOES say "...less potent inhibitor of dopamine reuptake."

(Sounds identical to Effexor, actually, despite marketing claims)

Anyhow, any opinions on whether Cymbalta is similar to Parnate would be helpful, as it has been mentioned as the next choice if I can't get over Parnate side effects. Thanks!
