I've never heard of it being related to Effexor, but I have had SD for a long time myself. For me, it's not as bad on my scalp as my face -- NOT a great cosmetic feature! In the past year, I've also had a lot of hair loss, brought on by stress.

Now, after about 30 years of ecxema (sp?) and SD, I can tell you something about that, if it helps. First of all, they are exacerbated by stress, so it's very possible that this is related to the Effexor -- if it's increasing your stress -- or to the condition you're taking it for. If you're experiencing sweats from it, that will also make either one worse, since oil glands are involved in both skin conditions. Of course, just to bring on a smile, the stress of flaking skin will do oh-so-much to make it better, wouldn't you know?

The best remedies I've found for it, whether on the scalp or on the face, are washing with Nizoral shampoo. The 2% prescription is better than the 1% OTC, but they're both helpful. Jojoba oil has also helped me, despite it being counterintuitive to put more oil onto an area where oil glands are acting up. (I think it helps mostly by softening up the scales, so that they slough off more easily.) I also rinse my hair with a solution of water with a little apple cider vinegar. That helps remove any shampoo or conditioner residue that might irritate things even more.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing this, there's no question that it's annoying and often painful. Best luck, and I hope you do find relief.
