Hi Starrs - Yes, when you say it that way it does remind you of the old Marilyn Monroe/Judy Garland stories of speed during the day and downers at night.
Out of curiosity I googled Ativan. I don't mean to sound scary, but it did specifically say that Ativan combined with "sedatives, sleeping pills, other benzodiazepines" can cause death. It also says that CNS depressants (the Vicodan) combined with the Ativan can cause a slower rate of breathing.
The only mention it makes of amphetimines (Ritilan) is that taking them together can reduce the effectiveness of the Ativan.
Please keep in mind that the above info came from a drug rehab/addiction/treatment site and could be bias.
Here's the page I was looking at:
www.drug-rehab-addiction-treatment.com/ativan.html+adivan&hl=en
When I was looking into the Ambien, it didn't mention and problems regarding taking Ritilan during the day. It did mention that Ambien could increase the sedative properties of anxiety medications.

Do you have depression along with your anxiety? If so, just a thought. You may want to try weaning off the Ambien while starting a sedating antidepressant such as Remeron. Remeron is taken at bedtime. I used to take it and it would knock me out in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I still have leftover pills from a prior prescription, when I occassionally have a problem going to sleep, I take a quarter of a tablet and I'm gone.
For me, I am presently taking 45mg Buspar (for my anxiety/anger issues)- 15mg 3 x day. For me, I find it non-sedating. I also take 150mg Effexor, 300mg Wellbutrin, and 30mg Adderall XL.
This combo is helping me fight off my daytime lethargy and apathy. (I also don't dread coming to my office because I'm so tired anymore.)
Please let me know if you would like to chat furter! Best of all!!!
