I sometimes actually physiologically *feel* a change inside my skull when I switch from one thought to another. I know neurons in the brain don't have sensation, but these feelings are as real as feelings in my gut. It doesn't happen a lot, and some of the sensations are slightly more comfortable than others, and they relate to specific lines of thought (they're not random).
I don't think I'm hallucinating it. My guess is that it's due to sudden changes in blood flow as different brain areas get activated, and the changes in blood vessels can be felt by sensory neurons in the dura around the brain or in connective tissue near the back of the eye or nose or something. OR, maybe a new thought is more or less stressful and my eye muscles tighten or relax a little. Or something.
Anybody else get feelings like this?
