In reply to Namenda with BPII and Abilify anyone?, posted by upsndowns on August 23, 2004, at 16:39:11
> My pdoc gave me samples of Namenda today as I have discontinued, finally, the smidge of serzone that was the AD part of my cocktail and the downswing has begun. Anyone have any suggestions, anecdotal info or advice about this drug or this combination...it would be greatly appreciated. I am especially susceptible to side effects, so any reports about them also desired, especially before I get too involved with this new drug.
I am currently taking Namenda (memantine) 20mg with my other medication, including Abilify. I experienced a partial antidepressant response to it during the second and third weeks. Nothing since. No side effects. The only negative thing I experienced was a stupor that appeared when I tried increasing the dosage to 40mg.It is too early to tell what place Namenda will have in treating bipolar disorder or depression. I will continue to take it in the hopes that it will act to augment future treatments. I recently added Cymbalta (duloxetine), an Effexor-type antidepressant drug.
Good luck with it. I think it's worth a try.
