Thanks Chemist. I stand corrected. I had read an article, I think it was the Reader's Digest, where that statement was made. Perhaps, it was an oversimplification.

> hi FST, i have to jump in here...lexapro is the (S) enantiomer of citalopram, not a combination of the (R,S)-citalopram (celexa) and fluoxetine (prozac). lexapro is designated (S)-citalopram or, alternatively, escitalopram and in made/marketed by Forest, as the oxalate salt. Prozac is a trademark of Eli Lilly and Co. and is the racemate hydrochloride salt of fluoxetine....all the best, chemist

I am now on 30mg Lexapro and am unipolar depression free after 45 days. Lex took longer to work than Prozac. Since you are doing well on Prozac, I would stay with it until it poops out. Than you can go to Lexapro. As far as side effects, both gave me headaches. I experienced no sexual side effects while on Lexapro and had sexual side effects from Prozac in the beginning but subsided later on. I am male. Good luck.

I go to my pdoc soon and i know she is either going to up me to 40mg prozac and keep me at 100mg lamictal. Should i give that a try first? And if that doesnt work for me, ask for lexapro? I feel better now on prozac than with paxil (prev. drug) but i still am not where i want to be...
