In reply to no periods anymore on my AP - is this bad?, posted by Basia on August 14, 2004, at 10:21:11
> Hi, I have had two periods in four years due to my need to take Sulpiride 600mg every day which has elevated my prolactin. Is this dangerous? I wouldn't mind THAT much but I feel weight gain, low libido and galactorrhea are all linked. My doc says it's ok but can be bad for bone-density if I don't do high-impact exercise but I read that it is high risk to have one's periods stop from anti-psychotics.

Being a guy, I don't know too much about female problems, but I think Osteoprosis & Infertility is the worst that you can expect. If the problem is bothersome, or you'd like your cycle back, I would consider trying out the atypical AP's like Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon or Abilify. Weight gain can be a problem with the first two, so you might like to try the last two. Amisupride & Risperdal might be worth trying too, but they have a tendency to raise prolactin also.
Cheers,
Panda.
