Another question on selegiline - Ktemene

Posted by KaraS on August 14, 2004, at 23:53:44

Do you think you're getting any boost at all in serotonin from the 5 mg. of selegiline you take? (I know it's supposed to be small to nonexistent since the low-doses of selegiline involve only MAO-B.)

I am only taking a very small amount of Effexor right now as I think I mentioned in an earlier post. On this low dosage I'm really starting to realize that I'm having symptoms I think are associated with low serotonin i.e. I cry too easily, I have the feeling that I can't handle any stress and I'm feeling very insecure in some ways. So now I'm wondering if I should also be trying to boost serotonin. I know that theoretically you can try low doses of an SSRI with very low dose selegiline but still it scares me. I tend to be ultra conservative on these things.

BTW, In a search I just found a couple of posts we sent to each other about a month ago. In it you mentioned that you were thinking of adding a little Wellbutrin to your treatment, did you ever end up doing that? Also, I told you that I was going to try Perika (SJW) and Rhodiola. You asked me to let you know how it goes. You may have seen my posts on the alternative board or I might have mentioned it in a previous post to you but if not, they were both disasterous. They both made me groggy and unable to think straight. The Perika gave me considerable nausea too. The latter was one of the worst things I've ever tried. There it is again - the things that make other people feel activated make me feel lethargic and exhausted. Anyway, on to the next thing...

Take care,
Kara
